Beirut - Elephant Gun and MIXI
I’ve known about mixi for a few years and I’ve heard it’s what most Japanese people have. Is there any legitimate reason for me to get a mixi account? I have a facebook, twitter, and a blog. Why do I need a mixi? Also, here’s a song that I love. It’s not Japanese, but it’s very good. More pictures to come soon—Shizuoka Street Festival!

Free International Calling and Texting
Well, sort of. The free international texting part is easy. Most cell phone texting plans include sending text messages as emails. Every cell phone has an email address. The email address is typically your 10 digit phone number + @ (carrier website address) If your carrier isn’t listed below, you can easily get your email address by simply texting yourself an email and getting the address....

Shizuoka - Take One
Well, I’ve been here in Shizuoka, Japan for a week now. So far I love it. It’s wildly different than Mobile, but I think that I’m adjusting well. One of the hardest things to get used to is hanging my clothes to dry—which sounds ridiculous, but, in America, most people use a gas or electric clothes dryer. I’ve made a couple of friends here, but it’s difficult...

HRC - Human Rights Campaign
One thing that is very close to my heart is the Human Rights Campaign. Millions of Americans, and millions upon millions more worldwide, have be the object of oppression. The HRC is an advocacy group focusing on the rights of the LGBTQIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Questioning) community. Prejudices, abuse, and violations of civil rights occur from early childhood...
Waiting
Well, I was supposed to begin work on 1 October. So far, I still don’t have my VISA. I’m still waiting. Not knowing when I’ll be called to leave is nerve wrecking. I’ve been keeping myself busy with projects and building things and lots of cooking, but it’s very stressful just waiting. I’ll update again whenever I finally hear something.

Wow.
Things have been extremely busy lately. I have a few garden pictures, a few engagement party pictures, and some things to write up, but the write-ups will wait. For now, pictures. Sorry about the many sideways ones. I thought there would be a way to rotate them in blogger, but there’s not. :\

Music
I love finding new bands to listen to. Lately, I seem to be getting a lot of music from NPR (Mashrou3 Leila, Soapkills, Esma Redzepova, et al.). Today, I stumbled across a music suggestion webpage. This is great for me. I’ve used Pandora for about…5 years now, and I’ve been using Songza since it first came out, but those choose the bands and you don’t get to see them until...

Contracts and Departures
The past two weeks have just been crazy. I’m excited, though. This Friday, my family is throwing me an engagement and going-away party. I’m leaving towards the end of September for Shizuoka, Japan. View Larger Map I’m very excited about all of the new things in my life. I think I’ll probably begin a master’s program (online) during this next year. Check regularly...
