Tweeting Poems - My First Attempts

It took almost 2 hours, but I went through my entire twitter feed and found every poem I have written for posting on twitter. Twitter has a terrible archiving feature, so from now on, every poem posted there, will also be posted here.

I think some of these are quite good. Let me know what you think!  Most of these were written for #haikuchallenge a daily twitter poetry challenge I used to participate in and will begin participation in again.

::

on a night like this,

why gaze at enduring moons?

take a lover’s hand

lead him to cool, blossomed, pools;

bathe each other with kisses.
— —

rainwater plunges;

a lone cicada laments

the end of summer

— —

stars peeking through black;

orange glow; last night’s wishes

fading in the haze

— —

watching her undress

irresistible, severe

spying through the crack

— —

peeking through the crack

her desire: wet, severe

watching him undress

— —

he paused just before

brushing back her blades of hair

revealing blue eyes

— —

the rhino rampaged

tears stinging his eyes—ashamed

of unicorn dreams

— —

Outside a café

dubbed Que Sera Sera

I savor my coffee

and ignore the mosquitos

on my legs

____

Well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed my poetry! I’ll be sure to keep posting more. If you want to find me on twitter, it’s http://twitter.com/pickmybran or just click @pickmybran

“Loqwacious” and Poetry

No, I didn’t spell “loquacious” incorrectly. It’s the title of the blog Loqwacious. I don”t know why the author chooses to spell it incorrectly, but none of that really matters.

Loqwacious is a word game played by users on twitter. Each day, the blog offers a new, correctly-spelled, word. The challenge is to write a beautiful sentence or short poem utilizing the random word.

I think this is something I’m going to pick up.

The word for today is “mocha”.

Here’s my submission:

PickMyBranBrandon McLeod:

waist-deep in the bay/ mocha water lapping against my back/ I see you laughing on the shore/ and feel something slither/ upon my leg #lqw

waist-deep in the bay

mocha water lapping against my back

I see you laughing on the shore

and feel something slither

upon my leg

This was my first time participating. I find the length limitation of twitter extremely challenging. This poetic form is neither haiku nor tanka. It’s a relatively new form called gogyohka. The only true rule is that it is limited to five lines. I hope you enjoyed it.

(re)EDIT:

I have just learned of another word game that does the same thing “artwiculate”. I will be following this one as well. Today’s word is “rubicund”. I haven’t had a chance to write anything yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

Artwiculate operates on a voting and point system. Loqwacious is solely for fun. For that reason, I will always prefer Loqwacious, but I am still doing both.

Les parfums ne font pas frissonner sa narine ;
Il dort dans le soleil, la main sur sa poitrine,
Tranquille. Il a deux trous rouges au côté droit.

Arthur RIMBAUD   (1854-1891)
